Fr John Mahony became the first priest to be ordained in the Diocese of Elphin for 12 years in a ceremony performed by Bishop Kevin Doran in Sligo Cathedral last week.
Fr Mahony, who's originally from Dublin set out on his vocational journey in 1976 but after spending two years in Malawi on missionary work he came home to find other issues taking precedence in his life.
The priest who now ministers in the parish of Ballintubber and Ballymoe in Co Roscommon, has been speaking to Anne Norris on the Let's Talk show about his "long way round" and his work so far in Co Roscommon.
