With schools closed, parents working from home and travel restricted, many people are turning to tv, gaming and social media to get through the day.

Many parents have raised concerns over their children spending too much time behind a screen whether taking part in virtual school lessons or playing computer games.

While new studies show that computer games can help educate, increase fine motor control and develop problem solving skills, irresponsible use can also lead to health concerns, with the W.H.O classifying gaming addiction as a disease.

The gaming industry is one of the few major global entertainment industries that has seen major success throughout the ongoing pandemic.

With people trapped at home and unable to socialise in a normal way, gaming has become a major social outlet for thousands of people across the country.

Our reporter Daniel Considine has been taking a look at how people and families have been escaping the real world pandemic by jumping into the virtual world.

He began by speaking to James, a local 17 year old, who meets his friends online instead of in-person due to Covid-19 health restrictions:
