A group called the Rural Ireland Organisation is to hold a series of meetings to campaign for the protection of turbary rights held by people in Ireland to cut turf.
Community activist Gerry Lofuts says the recent controversy about turf cutting has not been clarified in any meaningful way, and people need to know that the issue is far from over.
He says he believes the future of turbary rights will be decided under the new EU regulations on the 'appropriate protection of Ireland's bogs and peatlands', and this is due to happen within a couple of years.
