A local animal rights campaigner says he's not surprised by footage of live animal shipments showing animals in cramped and cruel conditions. Roscommon resident and founder of 'Animals Behind Closed Doors', Gerry Boland says Ireland should now follow the UK's example in introducing a ban on the live export of animals.

This is despite figures suggesting this year will be a bumper year for exports. Speaking to the Joe Finnegan Show, Gerry said politicians and agriculture sector leaders are ignoring the issue:
