Local authorities aren't engaging with traveller households to see if their needs are met, according to a new report.
Nationally a third of funding for traveller-specific accommodation wasn't drawn down between 2008 and 2018 by councils.
Longford and Leitrim County councils did not draw any funds for traveller specific accommodation in 2019.
Equality Reviews published on Traveller accommodation by local authorities has found from 2015 to 2018, Longford County Council stated that the only sum allocated by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage for Traveller-specific accommodation was €116,888.00 in 2016 and the Council reports that all of these funds were drawn down by the Council that year.
The total allocation by Leitrim County Council over these four years came to €498,515. The Council states that the total drawdown came to €236,322.
Figures are currently unavailable from Roscommon County Council as there equality review report has not been published.
Longford County Council said that there are 23 applicants on its approved housing list who have indicated that they wish to be considered to be Travellers and do not wish to be considered for Traveller-specific accommodation.
60 percent of traveller households in County Leitrim are in permanent housing supplied by the local authority, 25 percent are in long term accommodation while 15 percent are in short term rental accommodation.
Leitrim and Longford County Councils said the Equality Review does not address issues in relation to Travellers' access to private rented accommodation, despite there being a high number of Travellers accessing rent supplement supports.
