A local businessman believes the country could be facing a recession in the coming months.
Pat McDonagh says a combination of a rise in the cost of fuel, electricity and interest rates is leading to lack of disposable income.
He's noticed a decline in discretionary spending with attendances at major events also in decline over recent weeks.
Speaking to the Joe Finnegan Show the Supermacs founder says businesses will be forced to make wise decisions going forward to ensure survival.
''It depends on what business you're in, some businesses a recession kind of helps them, in other businesses it does the exact opposite. Obviously the hotel business is not so much recession proof so depending on the business you have to decide what road you're going to take.''
