A local cancer awareness group is urging people to consider more regular bowel screening.
Cancer Care West is calling for increased awareness of the common symptoms of the cancer that affects 1,000 people every year regardless of age.
April is bowel cancer awareness month and the most common symptom of bowel cancer is the passage of blood in the stool.
Hundreds of people are screened for the cancer at the Endoscopy Unit in Roscommon University hospital every year and it is is one of 14 units across the country.
