A local election candidate believes the electorate wanted to give the Government 'a kicking' in last Friday's referendum.
The Family and Care referendums were both comprehensively defeated with No votes of over 67% and 74% respectively.
In the Shannonside region, both referendums were rejected by well over 70% of voters.
Turnout was 44.36 per cent and this marked a 19 per cent drop since the 2018 abortion referendum.
