A local childcare representative is calling for the public's help in pushing the Government to increase early learning supports. The sector is suffering through a recruitment and retention crisis at the moment according to Amy Dowd, a local SIPTU early years union activist. Wages, working hours and supports are some of the key issues facing staff and management in the sector.

Data from the Early Childhood Ireland Barometer shows over half of Irish people think the government should pay creche workers' wages. 54 percent of people also believe childcare workers with university degrees, should have the same terms and conditions as primary school teachers. Speaking to Let's Talk today, Amy believes that it will be children and parents who miss out at the end of the day:
