A fundraising campaign to help contribute for the new RNLI boathouse for Lough Ree has been relaunched in recent days after some events had to be cancelled last year due to Covid.
A local committee has been formed to raise a €100,000 community contribution to the project.
The service began on Lough Ree in 2012 and the volunteer crew have had to operate out of temporary premises since then.
A new boathouse costing 1.2m euro at Coosan Point should be finished by late summer this year.
The lifeboat station is one of the busiest in the country and has responded to almost 400 call outs, assisting over 300 vessels, and coming to the aid of more than 1,000 people over the past 8 years.
Local businessman Michael Ganly was born on one of the islands on Lough Ree and is chairing the fundraising committee.
He says the lake is important to a lot of people and he doesn't think there'll be much problem in raising the local €100,000 contribution…
