A Leitrim councillor is warning that thousands of childcare places could be lost if new regulations are brought in for the sector.
They involve new rules for childminders who look after children in their homes, but there are concerns they are too strict. They are currently at draft stage, after the Department of Children put them out for public consultation.
Leitrim councillors will discuss the issue at their meeting on Monday, due to a motion tabled by Sinn Fein's Brendan Barry. The Drumshanbo man says the new regulations will have a knock-on impact on children if they are brought in.
