A meeting of Roscommon County Council in March will see the council seats filled by an all-female representation to mark international Women's Day.
The initiative is being organised by Roscommon Women's Network.
The Women's Network are working with the Women's Regional Caucus across the West Midlands and Northern region and it's hoped that other local councils will also get involved.
A planning meeting was held in January to set out the project for Roscommon and another meeting is being held in Gleeson's Townhouse on next Thursday night the 25th to finalise details.
Rita Kearney from Roscommon Women's network says they'd like to hear from any women who would consider taking some of the seats on March 8th or who might have topics that they'd like to hear raised on the day.
"The male councillors have embraced this idea and this is about embracing equality. So what they've done for example in Roscommon is that they're going to stand down for the meeting, 14 male councillors will stand down and will be replaced by 14 women from our particular grouping and we're going to bring forward ideas and issues that matter to the women of Roscommon".
