A three per cent rise in commercial rates is to be proposed as part of Leitrim County Council's 2022 Budget.
The local authority will seek the approval of its elected members for the rise at a special meeting in Carrick-on-Shannon later this morning
Despite the economic challenges of Covid-19 , Leitrim County Council's 2022 budget proposes the local authority will spend an estimated 44 million euro next year, with over nine million euro in income from the local property tax.
The Council is also proposing a three per cent increase in its annual rate of valuation which it claims is linked to increases in expenditure linked to the Strategic Investment Programme for the county which was outlined in the 2020 Budget.
Chief Executive Lar Power claims that the budget is framed in light of government projections of strong economic recovery and the three per cent rise, will be ring-fenced to fund the borrowings of the Council to provide the local financial requirements to deliver the Strategic Investment Programme.
In a statement to Shannonside FM, a Council spokesperson suggests that the CE hopes the move will be generally accepted as an important and above all necessary contribution to achieving the county's overall potential over the coming years.
The Council meeting to discuss the Budget and approve or reject the 12-month financial plan will get underway at 11 am in the Bush Hotel.]
