Additional buses must be organised as a matter of urgency to ensure children get to school according to a Longford Councillor.
Paul Ross says some families are anxious they haven't been issued with a school bus ticket ahead of the approaching academic year.
It comes as the Department of Education waived fees for bus seats this year in light of the cost of living crisis however opposition say capacity hasn't increased to cater for the influx of parents applying.
The Fine Gael representative says parents who've contacted the transport helpline have been left on hold for between 1-4 hours to then receive an inadequate answer.
Speaking to Let's Talk earlier Councillor Ross called for the issue to be resolved immediately with additional buses organised to cater for all students.
He says working parents are not in position to bring their children to school.
''The precedent was set earlier on when COVID happened and there was restrictions on the number of buses and additional bus were brought on stream to ensure that every child could get to school. And I'm looking for that straight away next week that every single child who looks for a ticket, the Government promised free tickets, and now it looks as though we're not having to provide the buses for them because some bus routes seem to be full. Everyone is back to work at this stage. No one has factored in, driving their kids to school twice a day.''
