The current state of a derelict former National Irish Bank building in Mohill is causing issues in the Leitrim town.
Speaking at this month's Carrick-on-Shannon Municipal District Meeting, Councillor Maeve Reynolds stated that the building is currently in a poor state of repair.
She warned that the building is hampering the work of the local tidy towns as points are being lost when judges examine the town.
The Fine Gael Councillor has called for the council to engage with the property owners and work with them on an action plan.
Responding at the meeting, Council officials stated that they are in contact with the owners and while they are ready to assist them, the onus is on the owners.
In discussing the future of the building, council management stated that the building would not be suitable for housing but could be perfect for community use.
Councillor Reynolds says the state of the building sends the wrong message to visitors in the town.
