A local councillor has called for more Garda resources to act as a deterrent to rural burglaries. Fianna Fáil councillor Marty McDermott was speaking following two break ins at business premises in Roscommon on Tuesday morning. Mee's Daybreak in Knockcroghery was one of the businesses hit by a gang of raiders in the early hours.
Gardaí have since confirmed a vehicle was found burnt out in the Oran area following a further robbery near Roscommon town. Speaking to Shannonside News, Cllr McDermott said a stronger Garda presence was needed in rural areas:
