A Leitrim Councillor is calling on the local authority to provide a temporary hostel in Carrick-on-Shannon.
Independent Councillor Des Guckian says in light of growing homelessness and evictions, Leitrim County Council should apply for Government funding to provide the accommodation.
He believes that its in the remit of the local housing department to provide such facilities.
However, the council say they do not have the expertise to establish or operate a homeless hostel and the provision of this accommodation is a specialist service provided by NGOs and the voluntary sector.
Councillor Guckian claims there's four people homeless in the Carrick on Shannon area and believes that these people need to be catered for.
