A local councillor is calling for recognition awards to be bestowed on 3 local organisations.
Councillor Frankie Keena brought the motion forward at the most recent meeting of the Athlone-Moate Municipal District.
He asked that Awards of Recognition be awarded to the Marist Brothers Order, La Sainte Union Sister, and the Mercy Sisters in acknowledgement of their contribution to the education and development of the town over the years.

In its response, the district said that it is a matter for the members to decide if it is appropriate or not.
