A Roscommon Councillor is calling on the TII to reverse their decision not to allocate funding to the N61 road project.
Phase one and two of the Ballymurray to Knockcroghery bypass were completed last year, however, at a meeting of Roscommon County Council yesterday, elected members were told that no money was available to carry out the design and environmental process.
Councillor Donal Kilduff is describing the decision as a devastating blow and believes the TII need to address road safety concerns as a matter of urgency.
While council officials say some funding is available to carry out works on a 2 to 4 kilometer stretch, the Kiltoom native believes this doesn't go far enough.
He still hopes the design phase can be completed until funding becomes available.
