A local councillor has described the attitude of national planning authorities to rural areas as shameful.
The issue was brought before the most recent meeting of Longford County Council.
Councillor Seamus Butler called for the County Development Plan to be reviewed on the basis that the current population of Longford exceeds what was predicted previously by national authorities.
Speaking to Shannonside FM news, Councillor Butler says authorities in Dublin need to pay more attention to local councillors who know their area better.
People in Dublin estimated that the population we've arrived at, over 45,000, would not occur in Co Longford until 2038.
How wrong they got it, we were that in 2022, so I mean, they've lost all credibility in that.
But it's typical that from their bastions in Dublin, dictating, and not asking the local councillors who are there on the ground, but the department doesn't listen.
