A local councillor is cautiously optimistic that an IDA advance centre is on track for Longford.
Councillor Seamus Butler described Longford as a key location for the development of an advanced manufacturing facility.
The issue was raised again in yesterday's meeting of Longford County Council.
A tender was published for another IDA centre in Mullingar yesterday but there is currently no site in Longford.
The council confirmed that meetings have taken place with the IDA regarding a site and Councillor Séamus Butler hopes that the plans for a centre are now on track.
"They have had a meeting now with the IDA, which they hadn't had as far as I can see in the last 18 months or 2 years. It just seemed to be in limbo. Now it seems to be on track and with the announcement by the IDA that they're tendering for a centre in Mullingar, that would bring to 3 the number of facilities in Westmeath while we have recieved nothing in Longford since we were promised. Hopefully it's on track now".
