An understanding of the benefits and pitfalls of social media is an important tool for any new county councillor.
That's according to Roscommon Councillor Orla Leydon after she confirmed she will not contest next year's local election.
Councillor Leydon was first elected to Roscommon County Council in 2004 and subsequently re-elected in 2009, 2014 and 2019.
According to the Fianna Fail Councillor, she has not ruled out a future role in political life, but intends to pursue other interests once her five year mandate ends in 2024.
She told Let's Talk today that anyone seeking her seat on the council should understand the both the pros and cons of the public facing job.
'I would say that you need to protect yourself in politics in terms of social media so having a manager to manage that side so they can get on with doing the good work in their community so they cannot be negatively impacted.'
