A local councillor is calling for significant measures to be put in place to protect rural Ireland from further weather events.
Leitrim councillor Enda Stenson says the Shannonside region was once 'one of the best places to work and to live.'
Now, he claims a lack of prevention policies as well as one-off housing is discouraging people to settle in rural Ireland.
The councillor raised the issue of broadband in towns and villages at the latest Carrick-on-Shannon MD meeting, following the devastating impact Storm Éowyn has had on local communities.
