The Higher Planning Authority has upheld planning permission for the demolition of the Lough Ree Power Station.
The ESB applied for and were granted permission to take the Lanesborough plant down last year and replace it on site with a battery energy storage system.
The planned demolition will include the boiler house, turbine house, bag filter house and associated 80 metre high stack among other structures.
The original application was the subject of several submissions criticising and objecting to the plans.
A planning appeal submitted to An Bord Pleanála by Liam Kelly has been refused, with the original planning permission now upheld.
The plans will now go ahead with 10 conditions attached, one stating that works must take place within the next ten years.
