Local councillor says urgent funding for footpath repairs needed in Longford

She called on the council to discuss the provision of a dedicated budget for path repairs on an assessment of needs basis.

Longford County Council have been called on to fund footpath repairs across Longford Town as a matter of urgency. The local authority currently do not have a funding stream in their budget for footpath repairs, with any works currently under the umbrella of various public bodies such as Transport Infrastructure Ireland.

At the May meeting of Longford Municipal District, Councillor Peggy Nolan stated that the current condition of footpaths in residential areas across the town were the key issue for many constituents on the door steps. She called on the council to discuss the provision of a dedicated budget for path repairs on an assessment of needs basis. Councillor Nolan requested the issue be discussed at the next Longford MD meeting regardless of what councillors will be returned or added to the body following the election:
