Local councillor supports call for fresh investigation into Leitrim man's death

An inquest delivered an open verdict in Carrick-on-Shannon earlier this month.

Garda Commissioner Drew Harris and Justice Minister Helen McEntee are being urged to help to solve the mysterious death of Leitrim man Liam Farrell. The 87-year-old was found dead at his home in Rooskey in January 2020, and his family believes he was violently attacked. An inquest delivered an open verdict in Carrick-on-Shannon earlier this month.

Blood was found in Farrell's shed on Friday by a team of private investigators hired by Farrell's son, Peter. This led to Garda forensics carrying out an eight-hour examination at the scene on Saturday - with their test results expected in the coming days. Local Fianna Fáil councillor Paddy Farrell says the case must be solved:
