The Cathaoirleach of Leitirm council is welcoming what he says is a very important change of the Tenant Purchase Scheme announced by the housing minister this week.
Darragh O' Brien is to bring an updated version of the scheme to Cabinet which will lower the minimum annual income needed to buy-out a council house or flat.
The income threshold will now be lowered to €12,500 to allow pensioners to be eligible to take part in the scheme for the first time.
Fianna Fail councillor Paddy O' Rourke says it's a long overdue development, and he'd like to see it extended further so that people on some other forms of social welfare payments could also qualify.
