Local Councillors are interested in developing the sheep represented on the Roscommon crest for tourism purposes.
Councillor Tony Waldron is making these comments after discovering the crest features a sheep breed that isn't native to the county.
In a joint motion with Councillor Liam Callaghan at Mondays Roscommon County Council Meeting , he believes the crest should highlight the county's native Whig breed.
Councillor Waldron says improving the logo for our history and heritage is important.
"We wanted to check that they have the crest right as it's an important place for our history and indeed the development of our tourism and this is something that can be a niche market for these farmers who are going through a difficult time with the price of lambs at the moment and also with regards to the wool, ideally suitable for crafts".
