Local councillors are seeking an urgent meeting with the Transport Minister over fears the Longford-Mullingar N4 upgrade may be scrapped.
Last month the TII announced that it had no funding available to begin the road project, which was initially mooted over 10 years ago.
At a meeting of Longford County Council yesterday, Councillor Paul Ross informed fellow representatives that he was worried that if the upgrade didn't go ahead this year it faced the prospect of being terminated entirely.
He says it's a vital piece of infrastructure to improve safety, support economic and regional development as well as strengthening tourism.
The motion of seeking a meeting with Minister Eamon Ryan was supported by fellow Longford councillors with Councilor Gerry Farrell adding that the county had been let down by the current Government.
Councillor Ross says people living in the general area of the proposed route have been left in limbo for years now.
