A major regeneration project for Roscommon town has received the official go ahead from local councilors.
The 'Putting the Spokes Back in the Wheel' project is a multimillion euro plan to revitalize Roscommon Town in a number of ways.
The plans include new walking and cycle ways along the Circular Road from the Lanesboro Street Roundabout to the Athlone Road Roundabout.
A key part of the project is also aimed at tackling under-utilised areas and developing the potential for more housing and public services.
Also included in the works is the creation of several controlled and uncontrolled crossings on the circular road as well as the demolition of the existing Library Store building and the redevelopment of the parking area next to the Roscommon Arts centre.
The 15 million euro initiative was discussed at a recent meeting of the Roscommon Municipal District, with local councilor's examing plans and 18 public submissions on the works.
While some amendments and additions were made during the discussions, the plans were formally approved.
