Roscommon County Councillors have agreed to call on Government to extend rates wavier for local businesses for the rest of the year.
A wavier was introduced for 6 months at the start of the year for businesses across the country, with the scheme then extended to September.
Local councillors are now calling on the Minister for Housing, Local Government and Planning and the Finance Minister to continue that extension into the new year to give Roscommon businesses the chance to recoup loses accrued over the course of the pandemic.
The motion was put forward at this week's meeting of Roscommon County Council by councillor John Naughten.
It was supported by the chamber with many councillors referencing the benefit increased trading would have to the exchequer.
Speaking at the meeting, Councillor Naughten says local businesses need help to stay viable.
