Local authorities in the Shannonside region have confirmed they did carry out gritting works on roads ahead of the cold weather today.
There was concern in some areas of Roscommon, Longford and Leitrim that busy routes were untreated with grit or salt ahead of the icy spell.
Responding to queries from Shannonside Northern Sound, Roscommon County Council confirmed that gritters were mobilised last night across the county in line with the Winter Service Plan, while Longford County Council also confirmed staff were out on roads as part of their winter plan.
Similarly, Leitrim County Council also confirmed that engineers had been monitoring the road temperatures and selected routes for gritting based on this information.
