Health experts are warning people not to get complacent as respiratory illnesses continue to flood ED Departments.

Covid-19 levels are continuing to drop across the Shannonside region following a spike at the beginning of the year.

Figures from the most recent Health Protection and Surveillance Centre report show a combined total of 30 new registered cases of the virus in the Shannonside region.

113 positive cases of Covid-19 were notified to the HSE at the beginning of January in Longford, Leitrim and Roscommon.

While that number is significantly lower than recent figures, medical experts are warning the public that hospitals and other health services are still under pressure from Covid and other respiratory illnesses.

County Longford recorded the highest local 7 day incidence rate among the population at 31, well above the national average of 21.4.

13 new Cases were notified in Roscommon last week, down from 55 at the start of the year.
