A local elections candidate has said its upsetting to see so few females running in the upcoming election in County Roscommon. Out of the 37 candidates running in Co. Roscommon, just 6 are female.
There are currently only 4 female councillors on Roscommon County Council with Kathleen Shanagher and Orla Leyden not seeking re-election. Of the 109 candidates in the Shannonside region, 28 are women. Leah Cull is a Sinn Féin candidate running in the Boyle Local Electoral Area and believes many women think politics isn't as appealing as it should be:
