Three of the main Emergency Departments in the Shannonside Region are reporting significant overcrowding today. There were 79 people waiting for a hospital bed locally as of this morning, with 567 patients waiting nationally. The INMO's Trolleywatch figures show 401 patients were waiting in emergency departments, while 166 were in wards elsewhere in the hospital.
Sligo, Mullingar and Portiuncula Emergency Departments are all extremely busy, with SUH the third most overcrowded in the country. 48 people are waiting in Sligo University Hospital, 21 in Mullingar Regional Hospital while Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe is uncharacteristically busy with 16 people waiting for a bed. Patients are being warned to expect delays on attendance.
