Multiple emergency services in Leitrim will conduct highly visible exercises in the county town this morning. The multi-agency training is designed to prepare first responders for future large scale incidents. This morning's drill will see Leitrim County Council, the Fire Service, the Ambulance Service, HSE and An Garda Síochána gather in Carrick on Shannon. The exercise will take place around St. Patrick's Hospital in the town from 9.30am to 1pm.
The event is designed to test the response of the crews to an emergency as well as the internal structures of the organisations. Previous large scale drills held at Sligo University Hospital simulated a gas explosion at a local hotel.
