Close to €150,000 was allocated to local youth groups through regional Education and Training Boards to help handle the impact of Covid-19 during the pandemic.
New figures from the Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth show that three ETBs from across the region were awarded the funding for distribution to youth work organisations in Longford, Leitrim and Roscommon.
The grant was part of a national fund of €1.4 million euro that was dispensed through 16 training boards to dozens of youth groups.
Organisations such as Foroige, Youth Work Ireland and Gaisce among others received allocations from the fund following an application process.
The Galway Roscommon Education and Training Board was allocated the highest traunch of funding for distribution locally, with €87,000 made available to groups in the two counties.
Out of the government funding, the GRETB distributed just over €70,000 of the fund to local organisations.
Longford and Westmeath Education and Training Board distributed almost €19,000 out of a government allocation of €30,887.
While in Leitrim, local groups received a share of €29,800 from the Mayo, Sligo and Leitrim ETB, with the full government grant used to support youth organisations in the three counties.
