Patrick was battling a significant house fire at Mount Temple in Westmeath when a wall collapsed on top of him.

An Athlone firefighter seriously injured on the job last month has been released from hospital.

Patrick Berry was hospitalised in October after a wall collapsed on him while he was attending a fire at a home in Mount Temple.

The Westmeath man was left with a long list of injuries including 11 fractured vertebras, a broken collarbone, broken scapula, several broken ribs as well as fractured bones in his legs.

He's been released from Tullamore Orthopaedic Trauma Unit this week and is now recovering at Esker Rí Nursing Home in Clara.

A go fund me set up to help cover the cost of the Westmeath firefighter's treatment has raised close to €50,000

Patrick's partner Nicky has spoken of the stress in finding him a suitable recovery space, as their home was not set up for his care.
