Banning gambling advertisements between the hours of 5.30am and 9pm is not enough according to a well-known local GAA player.
That's the view of Westmeath hurler Davy Glennon who says any ban should be in effect until later in the night.
Plans were approved by cabinet yesterday morning and include the ban on daytime advertising on TV and social media.
Speaking on the Joe Finnegan Show this morning, Davy Glennon says and legislation must clamp down effectively on the problem.
The popular Westmeath GAA player described the damage that can be done by gambling addictions:
''The amount of people reaching out looking for help, crying out for help and don't know what to do. I suppose it's the destruction that gambling is doing not alone to the person themselves but to, in my sense, employers, family members, your mother, your father, it depends who you're affecting, but it's not just the destruction you're doing to yourself, it's the destruction you're doing to the to the broader community.''
