Roscommon Gardaí are leading the call for members of the public to enact common sense home safety measures on their properties over the dark winter months.
Locking doors, keeping lights on and having neighbours and family check on the property are some of the measures being put forward.

Local Gardaí are warning of increased levels of criminal activity during the winter months when darker evenings mean less viability.
Garda Ronan O'Mara from Roscommon Garda Station has this advice for those who may be away from their homes over Christmas:
