Three people have been arrested in an investigation into the theft of a significant amount of power tools in multiple incidents across the country. Castlerea Gardaí conducted a day of action late last week targeting theft of tools and tradesmen's equipment in the region. As part of the operation, two men and a woman were arrested last week and detained in Garda Stations in Longford and Roscommon. The investigation saw searches of properties in Galway and Dublin, with three people in their 30s arrested in relation to a number of charges.
Roscommon Gardaí conducted a number of follow up searches at locations in the Dublin Metropolitan Region yesterday and resulted in the recovery of a large amount of property. The three appeared at a special sitting of Roscommon District Court this morning before Judge Deirdre Gearty. Daniel Maughan of 3 Carton Road, Poppintree, Ballymun, Dublin is charged with 12 counts of theft including power tools, cash and fuel, three counts of criminal damage and two money laundering charges.
Jason Maughen, with an address at Tirboy in Tuam, Galway is facing prosecution over eight theft charges and three criminal damage charges. Karen Mongan, also of Tirboy in Tuam is charged with six counts of aiding and abetting the theft of power tools and criminal damage. Local Gardaí objected to bail for all three of the accused, citing concerns over their attendance at future sittings of the court and the risk of offending while on bail.
