Local Gardaí are urging motorists to do their research if transporting a caravan over the summer.
That's according to Sergeant Ronan O'Hara from Roscommon Garda Station as the summer travel season continues.
Driving while towing a caravan requires the motorist to follow different rules of the road than usual.
With more people than ever holidaying domestically, the local Garda Sergeant says extreme caution must be taken.
Speaking to Shannonside Northern Sound, Sergeant O'Meara has this advice for those travelling with caravans:
" Now as the holiday season is in full swing and for anyone that may be renting a caravan or a RV or you have not towed a caravan before you need to familiarise yourself with these vehicles and the rules of the road for them before you take to the road."
If towing a caravan be aware of the of caravan you are permitted to tow and remember the max speed of towing a caravan is 80kmph. If towing a caravan you need to have adequate uninstructed vision in both car door wing mirrors and fit extension mirrors if necessary."
