Gardaí in the Roscommon Longford Division are calling on the Garda Commissioner and the National Immunisation Advisory Committee to re-evaluate the need for frontline Gardaí to be vaccinated.
An Garda Siochana are currently tenth on the list for vaccinations ahead of teachers and behind those between 18 and 64 living in crowded accommodation where it is difficult to isolate or socially distance in.
According to a local spokesperson of the Garda Representative Association, members of the force are worried about becoming superspreaders of the virus both at home and in the course of their job.
They are seeking to be re-evaluated to the sixth cohort on the vaccination plan along with some healthcare workers, key vaccination programme workers, and people aged between 65 and 69.
