Local Gardaí are appealing for motorists to drive with care over the weekend following a number of high speed detections.
Members of the Longford/Westmeath Roads Policing Unit conducted several speed checkpoints on local roads this week, with several motorists penalised for excessive speeds.
During a number of checkpoints conducted over a 24 hour period, gardai clocked at least three vehicles travelling over 135 kilometres per hour on routes with a speed limit of 100kph.
Gardaí are warning motorists to drive safety over the weekend as the forecasted good weather will see roads busy across the region.
