Gardaí in Roscommon are reminding people to remain vigilant to online fraud scams after receiving reports in October. Gardaí received a report from a woman in her 70s after she had received a call from someone portraying to be from EIR who got her to download a number of apps on her phone. The woman set up a Revolut account which included her bank card details however during the phone call a neighbour realised what was going on and ended the call. She then went to AIB and found that two transactions of €4,500 had been made to various persons however all monies have been returned and the lady is at no financial loss.
Another incident which occurred in Roscommon was of a man in his late 30s investing money into a website called Trade Up. He invested sums of money in excess of €3,000 he was advised by his bank that the website was fake. Gardaí are reminding people to never share personal banking details, pin numbers or passwords with unknown persons online, by text or by phone.
