Local Gardaí are reminding people to be vigilant to online scams. It comes after a number scams were reported to Gardaí last month. In early December, a 40 year old man from Longford reported that he was applying for an emergency loan and went onto a bogus website and paid a 150 euro signing on fee.
He subsequently noticed around €2,500 had been transferred into an unknown bank account. The injured party believes that his account was cloned and that he was scammed. Sergeant Damien Bartley who is the Crime Prevention Officer for Roscommon Longford, gave some warning signs that a provider's website is likely to be a scam:
