Gardai in the Shannonside Northern sound region are urging the public to not engage with criminals selling fireworks in the run-up to Halloween.
Operation Tombola is currently underway across all garda districts to crack down on the sale of bangers or fireworks.
Selling fireworks as well as lighting them and throwing them at individuals are all criminal offences and Sgt Lionel Mullaly says that people who are involved in the sale of fireworks are usually well-known to Gardai for previous criminal behaviour.
He is warning people not to enable criminals further by purchasing bangers or items which could injure or distress animals.
