The former president of the Irish Medical Organisation and a local GP says there's a changing culture for patients following the publication of a new report. The Irish College of GPs published research last week showing only two counties have adequate GP cover. The population grew by 3.1 percent last year, but GP numbers only rose by 0.6 percent.
Many rural counties fall well short of the recommended 100 GPs per 100,000 people with Longford having 77, Roscommon having 70 whilst Leitrim has 68 GPs per 100,000 people.
