Local Green Party Councillor Louise Heavin is defending Eamon Ryan's knowledge of the turf issue.
The Westmeath councillor was speaking following criticism of the draft legislation due in September on turf sale restrictions and the mention of internet ads.
Opponents of the measures say the fact it's proposed that internet ads about turf for sale should be banned shows the Environment Minister doesn't really understand the issue, because very few turf contractors use online advertising.
Speaking on the Let's Talk show this afternoon the Green Party councillor says Minister Ryan is fully informed by party members in the midlands and west on the issue.
'People who see Eamon Ryan as setting this himself, y'know, have to think a bit more about this.
I'm a member of the Green Party and I have spoken to Eamon and his representatives about this.
Pippa Hackett who's from Offaly is fully aware of the issues around turf.
I would have grown up with turf in my household, and I communicated my feelings about it to Eamon's office, so people making judgements on Eamon Ryan as a person, because of turf, that's just not right.'
