A senior member of the Green party in the Shannonside region has voiced her support for the retention of the eviction ban.
The ban is set to finish at the end of this month, with coalition leaders to meet tonight to discuss a Sinn Fein Motion to extend it.
Green Party TD Neasa Hourigan said she'll go against the Government on Wednesday and will back the motion.
Responding to her party colleague's decision, Westmeath Councillor Louise Heavin has voiced her support for Deputy Hourigan.
Speaking to the Joe Finnegan Show today, Councillor Heavin says she's been left in tears due to some of the situations facing her constituents:
'I can understand where the course of action is coming from and I do support Neasa in what she is doing.
I think I am in tears over the stories so far that people are coming to me with and people are in really horrible and difficult situations.
I can completely understand how you would not want to see an increase in that again I mean the homeless services are only just catching their breath since the ban has been brought in and we do not have supports in place.'
